Houston Historic Charm
I had the pleasure of staying a night in a historic Houston Heights neighborhood in a beautiful vintage house with plenty of character to fill one's creative thoughts. Through a few warm emails and texts I got to know a bit about
our host, Katrina, who made it very easy to get in and out of the house while being open to accommodating whatever request we had for breakfast and travel suggestions for our stay. Another huge plus for me, is that she's an Artist too, (interior designer) and so you can imagine all the details of design and comfort were covered at Uphouse Manor.
"The house was built in 1908 and the family stayed until 1928. The house then passed through three owners over a short period of time and was repossessed during the great depression. In 1935 Mr. and Mrs. Fuller bought the house and converted it into a guesthouse. Many of the guests were railway workers; Mr. Fuller worked for Union
Pacific. They added the back third of the house in a contrasting Colonial style, including all the bathrooms and toilets. The Fullers ran several guesthouses in the area, 235 is the only one that remains standing, 411 West 18th Street is now a car park for a local bank. Their business continued until 1988 when Mrs. Fuller died. By then the house was virtually derelict but was saved by Terry Rich and partners who made substantial investments in upgrading and securing its future. In 2002 the house was sold to Mr. and Mrs. Silvano, who ran a successful management consultancy company."-Uphouse Manor
I wish we could have stayed longer, the vibe was inspiring! If you have the chance to stay in Houston and are in need of R&R, I highly suggest you book a stay at Uphouse Manor!
